Is It Necessary To Move For A Long Career In Government Jobs?

    Wednesday January 14, 2009

If you currently live regionally and are interested in state government jobs or federal government jobs, then you may find you need to move if you want a long term career. While government jobs are obviously available quite broadly, many of the highest positions are in central locations such as capital cities. While not everyone wants to climb through the ranks of government jobs, those with ambition can quickly find themselves with nowhere to go but down unless they move to a nearby capital city.

Those living in capital cities already may be able to stay there as long as they are in an administrative role. Other government jobs, such as defence jobs or teaching jobs, can require moves to regional areas on the odd occasion. This can be a necessity early in the careers of armed forces personnel and teachers, as the government often struggles to adequately staff regional areas with volunteers.
